Hepatobiliary Cancers

Surgery remains the gold standard of treatment for liver tumors. Unfortunately, only about 20% of patients with liver tumors are candidates for surgery, due to the extent of the disease, the size or location of the tumor, or other medical conditions.

The majority of patients with inoperable liver tumors may be candidates for radio frequency ablation (RFA). RFA, available at South Nassau, involves the treatment of cancer using radiofrequency energy to create thermal ablation of the cancer. This technique has emerged as a safe, effective and predictable technology that can be utilized laparoscopially, open and in combination with surgical resection.
